The Villa Savoye is one of the most important works by Le Corbusier. In many ways it defined the course that modern architecture should take in the 20th century. It had three sets of restorations, but nowadays it looks like the original. The villa is a weekend cottage on a thin concrete lot with striped windows, a flat roof with a desk space, and several curvy walls. The design of the house contradicts the traditional rules of residential architecture, but is a representation of a new vision in the form of functional architecture. Vertical circulation is facilitated by ramps and stairs, and the geometry of the house is designed to ensure that people, as they move through the spaces, experience the harmony between the architectural forms and the play of light.
